Huawei P9 coming to India soon: Allen Wang

Huawei, the Chinese telecom equipment major could soon launch its flagship P9 smartphone in India. Speaking at the launch of Honor 5C, Allen Wang, President, Huawei Consumer Business Group (India) told IndianExpress.com,”We are looking at the right time for launching P series devices in India.”
Huawei which is riding high on the success of its Nexus 6P wants to take the brand further with its P9. Allen adds,”We are evaluating ways to complement the phone with Indian user specific content before launching the device.” He further added, “For us P9 is not just a smartphone but an opportunity to collaborate with international brands. If Nexus 6P was all about Google, then P9 is all about Leica.”
Huawei P9 is the first smartphone to feature a Leica branded camera. Huawei P9 is also one of the few flagship camera to feature dual lens. Since it’s Leica, there is a traditional monochrome mode that allows users to capture Leica like black and white images. Leica will always stay the most coveted brand in camera equipment and Huawei believes that expertise will help it reach new heights in smartphone industry.
Huawei, a privately owned $60 billion enterprise is looking at ways to expand its reach beyond enterprise segment. At company’s analyst summit in Shenzhen, the most common consensus was how to expand Huawei’s name beyond enterprise. The company executives frequently spoke of expanding its Consumer Business and thus reach more audience. Smartphones, obviously, play the key role in that effort.Huawei, currently the third largest smartphone manufacturer and China’s No.1 brand in terms of shipments is yet to set its footprint on a global scale. With most OEMs looking to take a pie out of India’s smartphone market, Huawei doesn’t want to be left behind.
Allen notes,”The launch of P9 could bring us in the league of top smartphone brands but we will do what we are good at rather than just competing for the sake of market presence.”
While Huawei is poised to bring its P9 and the P series to India, the immediate focus is on establishing the Honor brand. Huawei calls Honor as a young brand with online only presence, and the company is even planning premium smartphones under Honor.
With a software development centre based out of Bangalore, Huawei says it has managed to resolve the issue of late software updates on its smartphones. Even two year old smartphones from the company now have Android Marshmallow.
Allen adds,”Indian users value software updates and we don’t want them to feel left behind. The company is even working on premium smartphones under the Honor brand and expanding its horizon.”
With most of its Honor branded smartphones surpassing satisfaction rating of 4 on Flipkart, Huawei wants to use this as a launchpad for more premium smartphones later this year.
